Sexual Health

Our Philosophy

Sexual health is the right of all individuals, irrespective of one's gender, sexual orientation, age, or physical or mental ability. Sexual health concerns change throughout one's lifetime and within relationships.

From a socio-cultural perspective, sexuality and sexual health includes several key constructs:

  • Loving is essential and most of the people we love, we are not sexually involved with
  • Sexual relationships can be, energizing, fulfilling, puzzling, frustrating, and potentially oppressive
  • They enable us to learn about ourselves and our partners and to get close in ways we never expect

The World Health Organization defines sexual health as: "the integration of the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social aspects of sexual being in ways that are enriching and that enhance personality, communication, and love".

In regards to the campus community, sexual health includes education, services and programs regarding contraception, relationship building, self-esteem, sexual identity, STI (sexually transmitted disease) prevention, responsible use of alcohol and other drugs, and rape and sexual violence prevention.
